Your Engagement Session Guide

What to wear, when to shoot, and how to feel like yourselves on camera

A romantic black and white photo sequence showing a couple embracing and sharing an intimate kiss.

You're engaged. You're planning a wedding. And now it's time to capture this fleeting, electric moment where everything is still beginning.

This guide is for you if:

  • You're wondering what to wear
  • You're not "photo people" (spoiler: many of my couples say this and still crush it)
  • You want your photos to feel like you

Let's break it all down ...

When should we schedule our shoot?

The short answer: Golden hour or blue hour.

The long answer: It depends on the month, location, and vibe.

Golden Hour

That warm, romantic light that makes everything glow. Usually starts an hour before sunset, or an hour after sunrise. Ideal for beaches, lakes, fields, or anywhere with a wide open view.

Great for: Spring/Summer/Fall, cozy neutrals, and barefoot moments

Blue Hour

Just before sunrise, right after sunset. Quieter, cool-toned, and perfect if you want a clean, editorial feel, or are shooting somewhere crowded. Blue hour often feels mysterious and magical.

Great for: Urban sessions, city rooftops, costal shoots, and couples who want a peaceful, whimsical  vibe

What to Wear

Here's the truth: Clothes matter, but now as much as how you feel in them. You should look like yourself — just elevated.

Do:

✔ Choose pieces you can move in

✔ Stick to a neutral or earth-toned palette

✔ Opt for texture over patterns (linen, denim, lace, wool, silk)

✔ Coordinate, don’t match

✔ Bring 1-2 outfits max — you’ll get more variety than you think

Don't:

✖ Wear logos, neon colors, or anything too tight or sheer

✖ Overthink it — if you feel uncomfortable, it’ll show

✖ Bring props unless they actually mean something to you

What if We're Awkward in front of the camera?

You probably will be —for about five minutes ...

... then you’ll forget you’re being photographed.

Because we’ll move. We’ll walk, we’ll laugh, you’ll tell each other dumb jokes. I’ll guide you when needed and step back when I see magic unfolding on its own. You don’t need to perform. Just show up as you are.

You’re not meant to pose like models. You’re meant to feel something. I’ll take care of the rest.

What Happens After?

You’ll get the full gallery in 2-3 weeks. You’ll be able to download, share, and order prints directly from your gallery. I also recommend using these photos for your wedding website, invites, and save-the-dates.

Let’s Create Something That Feels Like You

Wherever you're headed, Let's make it unforgettable

I photograph engagement sessions wherever your story takes you. From quiet lakeshores and coastal towns to meaningful places abroad, each session is built around your connection, your rhythm, and the environment that matters to you.

My approach is calm, intentional, and story-driven. I focus on real moments as they unfold, gently guiding when needed, and letting space exist for what’s natural. The result is timeless, cinematic imagery that feels honest, never stiff or over-posed.

Let’s turn this season of your story into something lasting.

Thank you for trusting me to document this season of your lives. Engagement sessions are about more than photos. They’re about slowing down, being present, and honoring the connection that brought you here. I’m genuinely grateful you chose me to capture this chapter, and I can’t wait to create something meaningful together.
